The holiday season can be a stressful time of year for anyone, but it can feel particularly overwhelming if you have a loved one struggling with addiction. Are you feeling extra stressed because your adult child is in active addiction or maybe this is the first holiday season that your adult child is sober? Are you feeling lost because you are not sure what to do and taking care of yourself has dropped towards the bottom of your list?

Facilitator Emily Giattina, a specialist in addiction and recovery, will discuss the different stressors parents may experience as they navigate the holiday season. The group will be a mixture of psychoeducation and process and will focus on supporting and equipping parents as opposed to focusing on what the adult child with a substance use disorder needs to do. Individuals are welcome to bring questions or concerns that they have about navigating the upcoming holiday season.

Topics to be discussed will include but are not limited to:

  • Boundary setting

  • Grief that the holidays may look different this year

  • How to communicate with extended family about what is going on

  • Self-care

We hope this group will equip and support you as you navigate this upcoming holiday season.

It’s Ok That You’re Not Ok: a 6 week grief book study

Led by:  Sarah Collins, MDiv, MS, APC, NCC

Where: Cultivate Counseling
3525 Piedmont Road Building 7, Suite 408
Atlanta, GA 30305

Using Megan Devine's book It's Ok That You're Not Ok as a guide, this women’s book study group will provide an opportunity to experience and understand grief rather than seeing it as a problem to solved or avoided.

This 6 week group will correspond with the book's topics and format, and group members will have the opportunity to discuss and implement insights and practices gained from the reading. The group will provide support and resources to each member as she engages in her own unique experience of loss.
